Volume setting
Changing the volume of an audio source has an identical effect on all other audio sources. The volume is also jointly regulated within the service sources in the same manner. The volume of voice output for navigation can be changed during voice output. An adjustable interval (in menu "Settings") between the audio signal volume and the voice output volume is maintained automatically. This means that voice output remains audible even in the case of loud audio output.
Tone setting
Manual tone settings (treble, bass) can be made for each audio source on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The tone setting selected for the radio mode simultaneously applies to the traffic radio announcement.
Adjustments selected for voice output during navigation also influence the voice control system (VCS) integrated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). In addition, the following 3 preset tone settings can be called up:
^ Pop
^ Classical
^ Language
The following sound optimizations are possible with sound system (model 219.35 with code (810) Sound system):
^ Standard
^ Ambient low
^ ambient medium
^ Ambient high
^ Language
^ Driver optimized
With a change in sound emphasis (balance, fader) the ratio of the volume of the individual speakers changes. The functionality for the volume and sound adjustments is managed by the audio gateway control unit (N93/1), whereby the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) assumes the display and operating functions. The sound amplifier integrated in the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) provides final amplification of the audio signals, before they are output over the speakers.
Speed-dependent volume control, dynamic range optimization
The volume of the background noise in the vehicle interior is matched via speed-dependent volume control (SDV) and automatic vehicle interior noise adaptation by Dynamic Range Optimization (DRO). In the process the vehicle speed signal and signal input to the sound amplifier microphone (B25/6) are used as a relationship indicator.
