GF82.85-P-2006PMB Switch On/Off Behavior, Function

MODEL 203.0 /2 /7 as of 24.4.04
- with CODE (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
- up to Model Year 8

Described below are the individual positions of the transmitter key (A8/1) with the corresponding effects on the on/off response of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).

Transmitter key (A8/1) in the circuit 15C position
In order to ensure a quicker powering-on process of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) only the bus systems are activated for 3 minutes by inserting the transmitter key (A8/1) in the electronic ignition switch (EIS) control unit (N73). If the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) is switched on using the push/rotary control, the automatic shut-off takes place after 30 min.

Transmitter key (A8/1) in the circuit 15R ON position
With "circuit 15R ON", the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) is switched on, provided it was on before the last time the transmitter key (A8/1) was removed. The radio and navigation unit (A2/56) remains operational until the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed again. The function options are restricted to:
- the control of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56),
- the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1) and
- the control via the multifunction steering wheel (MFL).

Transmitter key (A8/1) in the circuit 15 ON position
If the transmitter key (A8/1) is turned further (circuit 15 ON) the vehicle is operational. If the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) was active before it was switched off last, the corresponding main menu is given in the display. If the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) was switched off for longer than t = 30 min., a warning menu containing general information on how to operate the system is given in the display.

Transmitter key (A8/1) in the circuit 50 ON position
With "circuit 50 ON" then engine starts. If during the engine start a considerable voltage drop occurs in the vehicle (battery voltage < 11.5 V), the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) switches off for the duration of the engine start and switches on again only after the battery voltage has stabilized.

Activating navigation
If the driver's door is opened the navigation is activated automatically via the controller area network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B).

This procedure has a duration of approx. 2 s. The display on the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) remains switched off

If in turn no change in status is detected at the electronic ignition switch (EIS) control unit (N73) (e.g. "circuit 15C" or "circuit 15R ON"), the navigation system will remain active for 30 minutes.

On/off response via the push/rotary control
The radio and navigation unit (A2/56) can also be switched on with "circuit 15C" by pressing the push/rotary control. All functions of the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) are then available for 30 min. After 30 min. have passed, the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) switches off automatically. After shutting off, the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) can be switched on again by pressing the push/rotary control.

After 30 min., the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) switches off again.

On/off response for a telephone call or an SMS
If a telephone call or an SMS is received, the telecommunications control unit (N112) or the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) control unit (N123/1) is activated during the run-on phase by the MOST. In this case, a wake-up pulse is transmitted. All components involved in the MOST are then operational. The radio and navigation unit (A2/56) is switched off either via the push/rotary control or with "circuit 15C". An active phone call is not interrupted by removing the remote control key (A8/1). In this case the MOST will switch itself off.

Response of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) with a battery voltage of less than 11.5 V
If the battery voltage drops below 11.5 V, a message appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) and requests that the engine be started..

If the engine is not started, a further warning in the multifunction display (A1p13) follows after 3 min. before the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) switches off. In this case switching on the engine prevents the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) from being automatically shut down. If the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) has switched off and the battery voltage rises again above 11.5 V, the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) does not switch on again automatically.

After shutting off, the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) can still be switched on again manually. However, the warning procedure is always accomplished as long as the fault has not been eliminated.

Response of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) with a battery voltage of less than 9.5 V
The radio and navigation unit (A2/56) is automatically set into defined standby condition, in which only the battery voltage is monitored.

In addition, the data of the current operating condition of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) are backed up. The radio and navigation unit (A2/56) cannot be operated in this condition and it cannot be accessed either using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

All communication with the external components is stopped.
