SUBJECT:
MODEL 170.466 (SLK 32 AMG) (MODEL YEAR 2002) RADIATOR MOUNTING CLIPS
It has been determined that the upper radiator mounting clips in above model need to be replaced. The new mounting clips are made of metal whereas the old clips are made of plastic. Please perform this Service Campaign during the vehicle's next scheduled service visit.
Effective Serial Number Range
A. REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE RADIATOR MOUNTING CLIPS / CHECKING PROCEDURE UPPER COOLANT HOSE
1. Prior to performing this Service Campaign, please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.
1. Open hood and place protective covers over front fenders.
2. Loosen and remove plastic mounting clips and rubber guides.
3. Clip new retainers (see 1 in Figure 1) onto cross member.
4. Place new rubber guides (see 2 in Figure 1) between retainers.
5. Attach new mounting clips (see 3 in Figure 1).
6. Check radiator for tight fit.
7. Check upper coolant hose for damage (see Figure 2). Replace upper coolant hose if damaged. See B. Replacement Procedure Upper Coolant Hose" for further instructions.
8. Close hood if no work on upper coolant hose necessary.
B. REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE UPPER COOLANT HOSE
Note:
Perform this procedure only if it was determined that the upper coolant hose is damaged and needs to be replaced.
1. Drain coolant from radiator and save. See WIS document # AR20.00-P-1142SV for important safety advice and instructions on how to drain and dispose of coolant.
2. Detach upper coolant hose (see Figure 2) at radiator and thermostat housing using suitable tools.
3. Remove damaged coolant hose.
4. Inspect hose clamps and replace if necessary.
5. Install new upper coolant hose using suitable tools.
6. Fill system with coolant. See WIS document # AR20.00-P-1142SV for instructions on how to select coolant, fill system with coolant, and inspect cooling system for leaks.
7. Close hood.
8. Replaced parts will be requested for warranty return.
