MODEL 220 MODEL YEAR 2001
INFRARED WINDOW OPENING IN WINDSHIELD FOR ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Model 220 is equipped with Infrared (IR) reflecting laminated glass which reduces the amount of radiated heat entering the interior through the windshield. The lamination/coating process used on the windshield prevents the transmission of signals through the glass by in-vehicle electronic devices. The devices which may be affected are for example, electronic toll collection devices e.g., "Easy-Pass" and radar detectors (for use only where legally permitted). To allow the use of these devices in the vehicle, two IR transparent areas are placed in the windshield to allow the electronic signals to pass through.
1. Mounting location for electronic toll collection devices (tinted foil area beneath the Overhead Control Panel (OCP) and behind rearview mirror) (Figure 1)
2. Mounting location for other electronic devices, e.g. radar detector, for use only where legally permitted. (opening is highlighted for demonstrative purposes) (Figure 1)
The IR opening is a trapezoid-shaped grid. This grid is barely visible and can best be viewed from the exterior of the vehicle at an angle. The dimensions for the trapezoid grid in the windshield are illustrated in Figure 2.

A template (Figure 3) is included to assist in locating the IR opening on the windshield. This template can be placed on the windshield under the wipers in the park position and will assist you in finding the IR opening.
