Starter Motor: Service and Repair
Remove starter, install
DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from hydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury to eyes and skin suffering caustic burns from battery electrolyte or from contact with damaged lead acid batteries.
- No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves clothing and glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
1 Disconnect ground cable of battery
2 Detach lower engine compartment paneling
3 Remove front exhaust system
NOTE: only right-hand side
4 Unscrew bolts attaching hydraulic line of active body control (1)
5 Unscrew bolts (2) of starter
- Bolt starter to crankcase: 42 Nm
6 Unscrew nuts (3) and disconnect electric cables (4/5)
- Nut, terminal 30 connection
Nut of connection of circuit 30: 14 Nm
- Nut of connection circuit 50: 6 Nm
7 Take starter (M1) down and out
8 Install in the reverse order
9 Carry out function check
10 Render electrical system operational
NOTE: Perform basic programming.
