Active Service System (ASSYST) From 9/1/99

As of September 1 1999

This document provides an overview of the driver information possible with the ASSYST as it appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster. Unless noted otherwise, the display appears in white characters.

What appears first is driver information on
- service interval, then
- fault and warning messages regarding engine oil and finally
- messages regarding oil level measurement at driver request. The service (A or B; in one or two service symbols) also appear together with the majority of displays regarding remaining time or remaining distance. It is possible to select the language of the display with the "Settings" function at the instrument cluster (A1)

NOTE: The messages in the multifunction display (A1p13) are divided into 3 categories depending on their priority. Messages of categories two and three can be acknowledged by the driver with the Reset button. Messages of category one (highest priority) cannot be acknowledged. Further information on these is given in the function description instrument cluster.

This display appears when the service display is retrieved manually, or if the warning threshold is reached.

NOTE: This display does not appear when time servicing is active, which may be the case for vehicles which have a low annual mileage driven.

Remaining distance (service B)

This display appears as soon as the service interval has elapsed. The remaining distance or remaining time is 0 km or 0 days. These figures are not displayed, however.

NOTE: If the service interval is exceeded by more than 100 km or 1 day, this display is replaced by the following displays.

Service interval (distance) exceeded (remaining distance exceeded)
This display appears as soon as the service interval (remaining distance) has been exceeded by more than 100 km.

Service interval (time) exceeded (remaining time exceeded)
This display appears as soon as the service interval (remaining time) has been exceeded by more than one day.

NOTE: This display appears only if time servicing (remaining time) is active, which may be the case for vehicles with a low annual distance driven.

Driver information regarding engine oil
In the case of the driver information regarding engine oil a distinction must be made between warning messages (e.g. oil level too low) and messages regarding oil level measurement at driver request.

Engine oil warning messages:

This message appears in red characters when the oil level has dropped to a level which could damage the engine.
This message belongs to category 1 (highest priority).
