Valve Cover: Service and Repair

NOTE: On air bag equipped vehicles, refer to Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems), Service Precautions. Also refer to Service and Repair, Arming and Disarming

1. Disconnect negative ground cable from battery.
2. Remove cover at top front of engine.
3. Remove cover at engine compartment partition.
4. Remove recess cover on top of head cover.
5. Remove crankcase ventilation line and spark plug connectors from head cover.
6. Remove electric cable of oxygen sensor and electric cable of hot film air mass sensor.
7. On models with automatic transmission, remove transmission dipstick.
8. Remove head cover bolts then head cover and gasket.
9. Reverse procedure to install noting following:
a. Replace gasket if in bad condition.
b. Check for leaks around edge of head cover and in spark plug recesses, with engine running.
