Removing, Installing, Dissembling and Assembling Valve Body

Removing, Installing, Disassembling and Assembling Control Valve Body

Oil drain plug (4a)
Drain oil, replenish after repairs and adjust to correct level, 14 Nm.

Bolts (4)
Unscrew, screw in, 8 Nm, take off oil sump (3), check gasket.

Control valve body (A)
Remove, install by unscrewing/screwing in bolts (7, 7a)1 8 Nm, pay attention to different bolt lengths. Range selector valve (A1) must engage in driver.

Disassembly and Assembly

Note:
It is important to ensure scrupulous cleanliness when performing any work on the control valve body. If possible, the work should be performed on a plastic base. Do not use any fluffing cloths; chamois leather is best suited to this work. Following disassembly all the parts must be washed and blown dry with compressed air.
There are 19 or 18 valve balls in the control valve body. When disassembling, ensure that the balls do not roll away. During assembly, the balls must be inserted at the correct points.

A Control valve body
B Pickup housing
1 Selector valve
13 Plate check valve
24 Primary pump check valve (not featured after omission of secondary pump)
33a B2 shift valve swarf strainer
46 Control pressure control valve piston
86 LB 3 drainage valve

1. Unscrew slotted-head screws (arrows).

Note:
Pay attention to plate check valve (13).

2. Hold control valve body (A) and pickup housing (B) together and turn over

3. Lift off pickup housing (B) carefully together with intermediate plate (4)

Installation Note:
Tighten bolts only slightly so that both housing parts can still be shifted relative to each other, as far as the bolts permit.
Insert valves (13, 24, 86) and swarf strainer (33a) into the control valve body.

7 Locking valve K1
9 Check valve without bore
14 Valve balls (18 or 19)
14a Pressure valve (or a valve ball)
35 Lubricating pressure shift pin
54 check valve
81 Strainer
87 Restrictor valve K2
88 Restrictor check valve
A1 Selector valve

4. Remove all 18 or 19 valve balls (14). The valve ball marked with the number 14 is resting on a conical spring.

5. Take out valves, filter and shift pin.

Note:
a 19 balls on control valve bodies without plastic valve (14a).
b 18 balls on control valve bodies with plastic valve (14a).

Installation Note:
The springs are installed either before or after the slide valve depending on the transmission type or vehicle model. For this reason, when disassembling the slide valve or pickup housing, take note of the order in which the valves and springs are inserted.

7. The arrow shows the position of the hexagon socket screw for the full throttle control pressure. The clockwise direction of rotation causes earlier wide open throttle or kick-down upshifts. The opposite direction of rotation causes later upshifts.
