A. Checking & Adjusting Trunk Lid Height & Alignment

Note:
Prior to performing any trunk lid adjustments or loosening any trunk lid mounting bolts, check the trunk lid for proper alignment.





1. Loosen left and right trunk lid mounting screws (arrows, Figure 1)





2. Loosen trunk lid latch mechanism mounting screws (10, Figure 2).





3. Screw in left and right trunk lid buffers (arrow, Figure 3) 1-1/2 turns.





4. Align rear edge of trunk lid surface flush with rear fender edges (arrows, Figure 4) ensuring a gap of approx. 5 mm between trunk lid and left and right fender edge is maintained.








5. Adjust rear fender and trunk lid edge surfaces flush to one another by adjusting the trunk lid hinges (arrows, Figure 6), ensuring a gap of approx. 5 mm between trunk lid and left and right fender edge is maintained (arrows, Figure 5).

6. Tighten left and right trunk lid hinge mounting screws (arrows, Figure 6).





7. Adjust latch tongue (11, Figure 7) 50 the lock mechanism latches without any resistance when the latch tongue is entering the lock mechanism (see Figure 4, section C).

8. Tighten trunk lid latch mechanism mounting screws (10, Figure 7).

Tightening torque:
10 Nm.





9. Loosen lock mechanism mounting screws (2 and 3, Figure 8).

Note:
Do not loosen lock cylinder screw (8, Figure 8)

Note:
Manually retract the latch tongue by sliding the manual operation switch to the left, push latch tongue into trunk lid and slide switch to the right (refer to section C, step 4).





10. Lower and carefully push down trunk lid until the upper area of the trunk lid is flush with the rear fenders (arrows, Figure 9)





11. Minimal trunk lid height variations can be compensated for by screwing rubber trunk lid buffers (arrow, Figure 10) in or out.

12. Adjust trunk lid lock mechanism for ease of locking and opening (refer to section B).

13. Tighten lock mechanism mounting screws (2 and 3, Figure 8).





Note:
A further trunk lid adjusting range is possible by removing the rear shelf (SMF, Body-assembly jobs, model 140, job 68-458) and turning the hinge eccentric mounting bolt (3, Figure 11) in the hinge mounting bracket.
