A. Model 129

Note:
In cases of customer requests, a deluxe handset with keypad and display is available to replace the standard handset. The deluxe handset can be installed in all model 129 vehicles and in the storage compartment of model 140 vehicles W/O rear A/C. The deluxe handset does not fit in the armrest of model 140 vehicles with rear A/C. As of MY 1993 the handset harness must be rerouted on model 140 vehicles to accommodate the deluxe handset (see S.I. MBNA 82/64). An extension handset cord for model 140 is also available to allow rear seat passengers access to the cellular telephone.

1. Remove carpeting from center console.

2. Cut and remove styrofoam, up to the horizontal chamfer (arrows, Fig. 8), from underside of carpeting. Remove material from lip around the underside of carpeting so reinforcing plate can sit flat.

3. Place reinforcing plate on back of carpeting (Fig. 8).

4. Locate, punch and drill six holes. The two outer holes are 6.5 mm, and the four inner holes are 5 mm.

5. Insert four screws through reinforcing plate and carpeting. Mount cradle on carpeting and secure screws.

6. Remove two forward screws in center console compartment.

7. Place angular cradle bracket in console with raised edge of bracket pointing towards the rear of the compartment (Fig. 9). Secure bracket using the two removed screws.

8. Replace carpeting and cradle into center console compartment. Harness cord should be routed on the right side with cord taped to chamfers on underside of carpeting. Secure carpeting with two screws (arrow, Fig. 10) to angle bracket in compartment.

9. Connect harness connector to the right side cradle connection and the handset connector to the left side (Fig. 10). Place handset in cradle.
