Installing Hands-Free Microphone

1. Unpack contents of installation kit and compare to parts list at end of work instructions. Read through entire work instruction procedure to familiarize yourself with sequence of instructions and parts. Remove Owner's Operating Guide from kit and place in Owner's Literature pouch.

2. Disconnect and cover negative battery terminal.

3. Remove dome/reading lamp housing:

3.1. Remove interior rearview mirror.

3.2. Remove mirror bracket.

3.3. Remove reading lamps and mounting screw behind each lamp.

3.4. Disconnect reading lamp connectors and in-car temperature sensor connection.

4. Measure back 100 mm and cut a 3.5 mm semicircular opening into the driver's side of the housing to accommodate the microphone wire (Fig. 1).

5. Measure over 30 mm from left edge of opening and carefully punch a small hole using an awl (Fig. 2).

6. Attach microphone mounting plate to header trim piece with screw.

Use caution so as not to damage any harnesses behind the trim piece.

7. Slide microphone onto bracket. Connect microphone connector to harness.

Note:
On early production models, the wires in the 2-pole microphone connector may be reversed. Inspect wires in connector, if white wire is not next to latch, repair connector. Remove wires from connector using MOLEX tool (HT-60630A) and reinstall wires in reverse position (ensure that the white wire is in the connector opening closest to connector latch).

8. Reconnect reading lamp connectors and in-car temperature sensor connection.

9. Route microphone harness behind lamp housing (Fig. 3).

10. Reinstall reading/dome lamp housing and rearview mirror.
