Starter Motor: Service and Repair
190D1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove rear sound insulator, then disconnect starter wiring.
4. Remove starter attaching bolts and the starter.
5. Reverse procedure to install.
190E
Less Countershaft
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly, then the intake manifold support.
3. Disconnect spring between throttle valve housing and intake manifold support.
4. On models equipped with cruise control, remove actuator from stud to allow removal of the starter.
5. On all models, remove starter support bracket from starter and engine block.
6. Remove starter to transmission attaching bolts, then separate drag link from pitman arm.
7. Remove battery positive cable and disconnect starter wiring from junction box.
8. Turn steering wheel fully to the right and unfasten starter.
9. Disconnect wiring from starter and remove starter from vehicle.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
With Countershaft
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove engine undercover attaching bolts, if equipped.
3. Remove starter to transmission attaching bolts.
4. Loosen intake manifold holder attaching bolts.
5. Remove oil level indicator plug.
6. Turn steering wheel to righthand side.
7. Pull starter slightly outward.
8. Disconnect starter electrical connectors.
9. Remove starter assembly.
10. Reverse to install.
