Rear Rotors

CAUTION: Before test driving vehicle, pump brake pedal several times to establish proper clearance between brake pads and disk.

Rear Brake Discs

Brake discs (62)
a) Measure wear in brake pad shaft with caliper gauge (035)124 589 O5 19 00.
Renew according to condition.
b) Perform visual check.
Renew brake discs with large cracks (not measurable) or if scoring marks deeper than 0.5 mm are present or when wear limit is reached.

Fixed calipers (32)
- Remove, hang up on body with suitable hook.
Do not subject brake hose to tension.

Retaining Bolt (64)
- Screw out.
Replace
10Nm

Brake disc (62)
- Remove from rear axle shaft flange (68).
Loosen tight brake discs from seat on rear axle shaft flange by tapping lightly with a plastic hammer
Assure that the parking brake is completely released.
Observe installation note for brake discs.

Cover plate
- Check mount on wheel carrier.

Rear axle shaft flange (68)
- Check vertical and lateral runout.
For this purpose use dial gauge holder 363 589 02 21 00 and dial gauge A1 DIN 878.
Lateral runout mm max. 0.15mm

Spreading lock (109)
- Check for easy motion.

Parking brake shoes (103)
- Check for wear, renew if required (42-0530).
Adjust after installation of brake disc

Note:
Clean brake discs, which are highly contaminated with pad coatings on the braking surfaces (visible on grey or blue discoloration of braking surfaces).

If different pedal travel is noted during test drive (particularly following curves) measure lateral runout of brake discs at outer diameter.

Installation Note For Brake Discs

- Clean any rust off off fitted seat and locating pin (70) on rear axle shaft flange with emery cloth
- Apply heat-resistant permanent lubricant (Molykote paste "U", Molykote paste G Rapid, Liqul-Moly paste 36) to assure that brake discs can be removed from the rear axle shaft flange again later.
- Check and clean brake lining surface on parking brake in brake disc drum.

Note: Replacement brake discs are coated with nitro cellulose paint for protection against corrosion. Before installation this corrosion protection must be removed from the brake discs. This can be accomplished best with a high-pressure hot-water cleaning unit. Observe safety regulations of manufacturer.

- Position brake disc on rear axle shaft flange.
- Assure that locating pin engages correctly in brake disc.
- Renew retaining bolt (64), 10 Nm.
