Valve Cover: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
- Open hood and release locks. Raise to the vertical position.
- Unclip catches (arrow) of high voltage distributor cover (1) and lift up out of the guides.
- Unclip spark plug cable bracket (4) with a screwdriver. Unplug spark plug cables and place to the side with cable bracket.
- Remove vent hose (5) with vacuum hose (6) from air cleaner.
- Remove vent hose (7a) from valve cover.
- Remove eight bolts (28) with washers and remove valve cover.

CAUTION: If valve cover is difficult to remove, do not strike cover with a hammer (risk of cracking and fracturing).

INSTALLATION
- Inspect valve cover gasket and replace if necessary.
- Place valve cover on cylinder head and install the eight bolts (28) with washers. Torque bolts to 8.5 Nm (6.5 ft lb).
- Install vent hoses (7a) and (5 with vacuum hose 6).
- Install spark plug cable bracket and reconnect spark plug cables.
- Install high voltage distributor cover (1).
- Run engine and check for leaks, particularly at the rear (arrow).
