Without Level Control

EXCEPT 201 SERIES

The front shock absorbers also serve as a deflection stop for the front wheels. When removing, loosen shock absorber attaching nuts and bolts with vehicle wheels contacting floor or when the lower control arm is properly supported. On gas pressurized shock absorbers with separating piston or with piston rod located on top of shock, when the vehicle is raised and the axle half is not under load, ensure piston rod is not turning while the upper attaching nut is loosened. In this condition the deflection stop within the shock absorber rests against the operating piston. The attachment of the operating piston to the piston rod may loosen. The gas pressure would then force a sudden extension of the piston rod and a loss of shock absorber fluid will result.
1. On 107 series only, remove coolant expansion tank.
2. Remove shock absorber upper attaching nuts.
3. Remove shock absorber to lower control arm attaching nuts.
4. Press shock absorber piston rod inward, then remove shock absorber from vehicle.
5. Reverse procedure to install. Torque shock absorber to lower control arm attaching nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
