1. Remove air cleaner assembly, then the cylinder head cover.
2. Remove spark plugs, then the chain tensioner, Figs. 11 and 12.
3. Separate timing chain using a suitable cutting tool or by grinding off both pins of one link.
4. Remove disassembled link from timing chain, then attach new chain to old chain using a connecting link.
5. Disconnect wiring from ignition distributor.
6. Rotate crankshaft slowly in normal direction of rotation while simultaneously pulling up on old chain until connecting link comes to rest on top point of camshaft sprocket. The timing chain must remain properly meshed in camshaft sprocket(s) as crankshaft is turned.
