SUBJECT: INSTALLING MODIFIED COMPRESSION SPRING FOR WORKING PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 722.413 IN MODEL 201.128


Complaints of the transmission slipping under certain conditions can be resolved by installing a modified compression spring for the working pressure control valve.

The modified compression spring is installed in production as of the effective transmission number below. Some vehicles were already modified in the VPC's. An entry "213/27" has been made on the inside cover of the maintenance booklet at the VPC's to identify these vehicles.

Note: Do not install a new spring in vehicles with the entry "213/27" in the maintenance booklet.

The procedure for the modification of not previously modified vehicles is in the attached Work Instructions No. 213.

Please be sure to enter the modification code "213/27" on the inside cover of the maintenance booklet after completion of the modification.

Note: The modified compression spring is installed in production as of the effective transmission number below. Some vehicles were already modified in the VPC's. Vehicles already modified can be identified by the entry "213/27" (no. and grp. of Work Instructions) on the inside cover of the vehicle's maintenance booklet. Do not install a new spring in vehicles with the entry "213/27" in the maintenance booklet.

Procedure

1. Remove encapsulation panel below engine.

2. Remove drain plug and drain transmission fluid.

3. Unscrew fastening screws and remove transmission oil pan.

4. Remove end cover plate on the front of the valve body.


5. Remove compression spring for working pressure control valve and install new spring.
6. Reinstall plate and all other components in reverse order of removal.

7. Refill transmission with approved automatic transmission fluid.

8. Using ink pen, enter remark "213/27" to inside cover of vehicle's maintenance booklet at the lower right corner to allow verification of procedure performed.
