Engine Block Heater - Installation of Cable

SUBJECT: INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL CABLE FOR ENGINE BLOCK HEATER MODEL 201.126


As of model year 1986, all diesel engines are equipped with a factory-installed block heater as standard equipment. The attached Work Instructions, No. 179, detail the installation of the electrical cable.

NOTE: The electrical cable is NOT installed at the VPC as mentioned in the Preliminary Model Year 1986 Introduction Manual-Models 107, 126, and 201.

A coupon entitling customers to free installation of the electrical cable can be found in the 1986 "Owner's Service and Warranty Policy" booklet.
1. Disconnect battery negative cable.

2. Raise the vehicle on a lift and remove the rear encapsulation panel below the engine compartment.

3. Attach electrical cable to block heater. Route cable away from exhaust manifold through insulated cable clamp (a, Figure 1).

NOTE: Attach insulated cable clamp [8 mm (5/16") bolt hole or use Part Number 916016 006202] to the bottom rear engine support bolts.

4. Continue routing the cable, using plastic straps, along the alternator cooling duct (1), the bracket below the auxiliary water pump (2) and the A/T oil cooler line (3, if applicable) at the radiator (Figure 2).
5. Reinstall encapsulation panel below engine compartment.

6. Connect battery negative cable.
