A. Modified Intermediate Plate and Gasket Transmission 722.3 (Gasoline Engines Only) and 722.4 (Gasoline and Diesel Engines)
Modified intermediate plates and gaskets are now installed in the above transmissions to improve the partial-load 4-3 downshift.

FIGURE 1:
The gasket and intermediate plate have a modified hole pattern. Therefore, they can only be used in the following combinations.
Modified version:
Intermediate plate without holes (circled) and gasket with an additional hole (arrow, Figure 1).
NOTE: Vehicles with V-8 engine and transmissions with "B" position on shift console are already equipped with the modified intermediate plate. Therefore, only the modified gasket should be installed in case of a complaint (hard 4-3 downshift with partial load).

B. Additional Restrictor Orifice Installation, Transmission 722.4
In case of complaints about quick and hard reverse gear engagement, an additional orifice can be installed in the supply passage to the reverse gear piston.
This modification can be performed on vehicles with transmission end numbers below 070 826.
FIGURE 3:
Procedure (Valve body removed)
1. Remove lower cover (Service Microfiche, Automatic transmission 722.4, Job No. 430).
2. Insert additional restrictor orifice (arrow) in supply passage as shown (Figure 3).
3. Install valve body and lower cover.
