SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF WELD-STUDS ON WHEELWELL AND UNDERCARRIAGE MODEL 201

FIGURE 1 - STUD RETROFIT KIT:

Please provide this information to your body repair facility..

When performing body repairs, missing weld-studs that fasten the fender skirt to the wheel housing, and the tubing and dampening material to the undercarriage, can be installed with the available stud retrofit kit (Figure 1, M6 rivet nut and collar-stud). If a weld-stud has been torn out, the remaining hole has to be welded shut.

NOTE: Replacement floor pans are not fitted with weld studs.

FIGURE 2 - LOCATIONS FOR RIVET NUTS UNDER THE MAIN FLOOR SECTION:

Work Procedure

1. Mark and center-punch the hole location for the rivet nut. For the wheelhousing, use the fender skirt as a template and for the undercarriage refer to dimensions in Figure 2.

CAUTION! When drilling holes in or around the engine compartment, be careful not to damage installed components or wiring.
2. Drill holes (9 mm diameter) and coat hole edges with zinc dust paint.

3. Close the grips completely, and set the stroke scale at "O". Then, while maintaining slight pressure on the grip of the tool, move the scale to setting number 5.

FIGURE 3:

4. Release the grips and open the tool completely. Thread the rivet nut onto the mandrel, making sure that all of the threads of the nut are taken up. Adjust the nosepiece so that while the tool is open, the nosepiece is flush with the head of the rivet (Figure 3). Set the nosepiece lock nut flush with the tool body. The rivet is now ready to be installed.

NOTE: All threads of the rivet nut must be taken up by the mandrel to prevent any damage to the threads of the rivet nut while installing the rivet nut.
5. Insert the rivet nut squarely into the hole with the head of the rivet nut flush against the surface of the material. Hold the tool at right angles to the material surface and push down firmly on the rivet nut while actuating the rivet gun to assure a tight installation.

6. Unscrew the mandrel from the set (installed) rivet nut.

FIGURE 4:

7. Coat the collar-stud threads (which screw into rivet nut, Figure 4, arrow) with locking compound, part no. 002 989 94 71, and screw into rivet nut.

8. Attach remaining parts as required.
