N22 AAC [KLA] control and operating unit
Location
The control and operating unit is located in the center console.
Task
The control and operating unit actuates all functions required for climate control in the vehicle.
Design
The control and operating unit consists of the following components:
^ Air volume selector wheel (1)
^ Left temperature selector wheel (2)
^ Right temperature selector wheel (3)
^ Air distribution selector wheel (4)
^ Defrosting button (5)
^ Automatic button (6)
^ A/C or REST button (7)
^ In-car temperature sensor (N22b1)
^ Rear window heater button (N22s1)
^ Air recirculation mode button (N22s2)
The control and operating unit enables the following operations:
^ Interior temperature selection separated for the left and right side
^ Automatic blower control and air distribution
^ Manual blower control
^ Manual air distribution
^ Defrost function
^ Switch refrigerant compressor (A9) on and off Switching the residual heat function on and off Recirculated air mode
^ Heated rear window (R1) actuation
The control and operating unit takes over the following actuations:
Via interior CAN:
^ The following components are actuated via the front signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/1):
- Coolant circulation pump (M13)
- Control valve of the refrigerant compressor
^ The following component is actuated via a switch-on request to the EZS control unit (N73), which routes this request from the drive train CAN to the CDI control unit (N3/9) (with diesel engine) or to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (with gasoline engine):
- Additional fan (M4)
Via AC bus:
- Blower regulator (A32n1)
- Fresh air/air recirculation flaps actuator motor (M2/5)
- Left blend air flap actuator motor (M2/6)
- Right blend air flap actuator motor (M2/7)
- Left and right footwell flaps actuator motor (M2/15)
- Left and right defroster flaps actuator motor (M2/16)
- Fresh air flaps actuator motor (M2/21)
direct:
^ Evaporator temperature sensor ground (B10/6)
The following sensors are read in by the control and operating unit:
Via interior CAN:
By front SAM:
- Refrigerant pressure and temperature sensor (B12/2)
- Outside temperature display temperature sensor (B14)
By overhead control panel control unit (N70):
- In-car temperature sensor (N70b1)
- Position of tilting/sliding roof (SHD) (with code (D27) Power tilting/sliding roof)
By rear signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/2):
-Left front door contact switch (S17/3)
-Right front door contact switch (S17/4)
- Left rear door contact switch (S17/5) (model 463.248/249/270/271/341/346 only)
- Right rear door contact switch (S17/6) (model 463.248/249/270/271/341 only)
By left front door control unit (N69/1):
- Position of driver-side power window motor (M10/1)
By right front door control unit (N69/2):
- Position of passenger-side power window motor (M10/2) By the left rear door control unit (N69/3) (model 463.248/249/270/271/341/346 only):
- Position of left rear power window motor (M10/5)
By the right rear door control unit (N69/4) (model 463.248/249/270/271/341/346 only):
- Position of right rear power window motor (M10/6)
Via AC bus:
- Dew point sensor (B31/2)
direct:
- Evaporator temperature sensor
Discrete inputs:
^ Circuit 30
^ Circuit 31
^ Signals via AC bus
Control possibilities
Air volume selector wheel
The air volume can be manually adjusted in 6 stages by turning the air volume selector wheel.
Temperature selector wheel
The desired temperature setting for the left and right sides can be set by turning the associated temperature selector wheel.
Air distribution selector wheel
The air distribution can be manually selected by turning the air distribution selector wheel.
Defrosting button
Pressing the defrosting button sets the temperature to "maximum" and the distributes the air flow to the defroster vents. All the other flaps are closed. The refrigerant compressor and the coolant circulation pump are activated. The function indicator in the defrosting button comes on.
With code (F49) Heated windshield, the heated windshield (R22/2) is additionally switched on.
Automatic button
The air volume and air distribution are regulated automatically when the automatic button is pressed. When the automatic mode is activated, the function indicator comes on.
A/C or REST button
Pressing the A/C or REST button switches off the refrigerant compressor. All other functions are retained.
The function indicator illuminates when the refrigerant compressor is switched on.
When circuit 15 is Off, the residual heat function is activated when the A/C or REST button is pressed. The function indicator illuminates when the residual heat function is switched on.
Rear window heater button
Pressing the rear window heater button switches on the heated rear window; at the same time, the function indicator in the rear window heater button is switched on.
Air recirculation mode button
Pressing the air recirculation mode button closes the fresh air/air recirculation flap to prevent outside air from entering. The function indicator illuminates during air recirculation mode.
