Liftgate Window Glass: Service and Repair




AR67.20-P-3550GH Remove/Install Rear Window







Remove
1 Prepare glue cartridge
- 2-component repair kit for glazing glued window panes

2 Remove tailgate wiper motor
3 Remove center high-mounted stop lamp
4 Remove liner on tailgate
5 Separate electrical connections of rear window defroster

Danger:
- Risk of injury from blade slipping off when clamping blade in multicutter and from glass splinters when cutting out window
- Always interrupt air supply when inserting blade. Wear protective gloves and eye protection.


6 Cutting out rear window

CAUTION: Secure rear window with adhesive strips to prevent it from falling off.

7 Use suction cups to lift rear window off tailgate
- See Commercially Available Tools below.

8 Cut off remaining adhesive material on body flange and remove loose residues
- Not more than 2 mm must remain.

Installation
9 Prepare window for installation
10 Prepare body flange

CAUTION: If body flange is damaged or residual adhesive material missing, first of all apply primer (red aluminum bottle) to adhesive point. Allow primer to air-dry for min 10 minutes.

11 Align glass pane in body opening
- Distance between window and body opening, "Dimension "A" = 6 mm

12 Use suction cups to take rear window off tailgate
- See Commercially Available Tools below.

13 Open crank window at front door

CAUTION: During curing time, this prevents the window from being pressed outward by the air pressure when the doors are closed.

14 Guide nozzle along glue residue on body flange while pressing glue out uniformly

CAUTION:
- Height of glue bead approx. 13 mm.
- Install window within 10 minutes before adhesive force of glue starts to decrease.


- Betagun 2K electric cartridge gun: See Commercially Available Tools below.

15 With aid of second person, position window on adhesive strips (matched up), position on adhesive bead and press on long enough until it is resting on the window rubber spacers

16 Attach window with adhesive strips
- Curing time is approx. 1 hour, calculated from the time the window is installed. The rain test can be performed after the installation work.

17 Plug in electrical connections for window defroster
18 Install in the reverse order
