INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT OF LEFT FRONT UPPER CONTROL ARM
This Recall Campaign has been initiated due to a supplier quality problem with the left front upper control arm (Figure 1). Note: arrow indicates front of vehicle.
Approximately 870 vehicles in the U.S. are affected by this Recall Campaign and are in dealer possession.
Please review the Effective Serial Number Range. Only those vehicles listed are affected by this recall.
Prior to performing this Recall Campaign, please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.
A copy of the attached notification letter will be mailed to customers.
The vehicles "flagged" in VMI are within the following Effective Serial Number Range Table:
Inspection Procedure
1. Please review VMI to determine if vehicle needs to be inspected.
2. Inspect left front upper control arm, noting location of the nine (9) digit casting number (Circle, Figure 1). Any control arm bearing the casting digit numbers "309" as the last three digits, must be replaced.
3. If the left front upper control arm casting number digits are NOT "309", the vehicle can be released for retail sale. The Inspection Procedure has been completed.
Please submit a warranty claim for the inspection of the vehicle.
4. If the left front control upper control arm casting numbers ARE "309", the control arm must be replaced, continue with: "Replacement Procedure" noted below.
Replacement Procedure
1. Replace left front upper control arm (Figure 1), see WIS document AR33.20-P-0500GH
Note:
As indicated in the WIS repair document noted above, ensure that all self-locking nuts and bolts are replaced.
2. Upon replacement of the left front upper control arm, a wheel alignment must be performed. See WIS document AR40.20-P-0200GH for details.
Note:
Only MBUSA approved and designated Wheel Alignment Equipment is to be used to perform the wheel alignment procedure. Additionally, ensure that a copy of the before and after alignment specifications are filed with the repair order in the repair order file upon completion of this recall.
3. Test drive vehicle to ensure proper vehicle tracking prior to returning vehicle to the customer.
4. Please submit a warranty claim for the inspection/replacement of the left front upper control arm, and wheel alignment.
