Changes to Telephone Installation Instructions T-I-82.64/163

Due to the removal of the D2B coupler behind the MCS unit on Model 163 vehicles as of chassis end number A349207, the following procedure must be completed when installing the optional cellular telephone system.

1. Remove the MCS unit.

2. Disconnect the cabling from the head unit.

3. Untangle the harness loop to the MCS to insure maximum cable length.

4. Follow the "Cellular Telephone/CD Changer/Optional Voice Recognition System Installation" instructions T-I-82.64/163.

5. In Section C after step 7, ensure the D2B cables for the PSE are positioned to the right side of the MCS unit opening and not tangled in other wiring harnesses.

6. In place of steps 6 and 7 in Section D: open the 90° D2B connector shell of the head unit.

7. Remove the D2B (red) optical cable from the connector shell.

8. Install the PSE D2B (red) optical cable into the 90° D2B connector shell and close the connector.

9. Using the optic coupler provided with the telephone PSE cable, connect the D2B (red) optical cable to the telephone PSE D2B (white) optical cable.

10. Be sure the wiring is laid out as in Figure 6, before installing the MCS unit-this will prevent wiring damage during the installation.

11. Figure 7 shows the wiring and D2B cables properly connected to the MCS unit prior to installation.

12. Reinstall the MCS unit halfway into the opening and reach behind the dash through the glove box or lower dash panel to locate the D2B cable and MCS wiring harness. Guide the D2B cable and MCS wiring harness while fully seating the MCS unit into the dash to insure the D2B cable is not damaged.
