Shift-Lock

Function
The term shift-lock refers to the functions which, in addition to the parking brake, secure the vehicle against unintentional movement.

This includes the parking lock in the transmission and the function which locks the selector lever in position "P".

The shift lock function only allows the driver to engage a driving gear and move the selector lever from the "P" position if the ignition key is turned to the ignition "ON" position and if the brake pedal is depressed.

The vehicle is secured mechanically by blocking the parking lock gear.

The ignition key can only be turned to the "0" position and removed from the ignition lock when the selector lever is in the "P" position. This ensures that the driver moves the selector lever to the "P" position after turning off the engine.
