REINFORCEMENT TO CENTER REAR SEAT BELT ANCHOR
This service campaign has been initiated in order to provide product enhancement via a reinforcement plate to the center rear seat belt anchor (2, Figure 1).
Prior to performing any work, please review the entire document carefully to assure familiarization with the procedure. Neglecting to follow this suggestion may result in unnecessary seat damage. Additionally, to ensure occupant safety, it is imperative that all fasteners be properly torqued where specified.
Please complete this modification at the next service.
Prior to performing this Service Campaign, please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove folding rear backrest (see WIS: AR91.12-P-1720GI) and place removed backrest in the trunk area.
2. Fold back and secure rear of seat cushion with (3" wide) masking tape (1 Figure 1) to expose seat belt anchor mount (2, Figure 1). Please use caution to prevent damage to seat cover.
3. Remove assembly lock washer from seat belt anchor and buckle assembly, then remove anchor bolt. Observe proper seat orientation of seat belt buckle and seat belt end fitting assembly (8, Figure 2) for reinstallation.
4. Place reinforcement plate (3, Figure 3) on top of seat belt anchor mount (2, Figure 3), locate with notch.
5. Secure reinforcement plate (3, Figure 3) into position with seat belt anchor bolt (4, Figure 3), tighten seat belt anchor bolt sufficiently only to prevent reinforcement plate from shifting around.
6. Next drill two 4 mm holes (5, Figure 3) through reinforcement plate and anchor mount. Use care when drilling in order to avoid oversizing holes. Wear protective gloves and eyewear when drilling the holes. Use existing pilot holes on reinforcement plate for drilling locations. Drill completely through opposite side of anchor mount and reinforcement plate in a straight line.
7. Remove metal chips from seat and the surrounding area.
8. Support the reinforcement plate with a clamp (6, Figure 4).
9. Install retainer pins (7, Figure 5) into the previously drilled holes. Ensure that the retainer pins are exposed an equal length on each side of the anchor mount (7, Figure 6).
Note:
The clamp has been removed in picture for clarity. Clamp must be installed when installing the retainer pins into the anchor mount.
10. Remove clamp.
11. Remove seat belt anchor bolt (was used to secure reinforcement plate).
12. Reassemble seat belt anchor and buckle assembly in reverse order as removed in step 3 and see WIS AR91.40-P-0638GI for torque values.
13. Remove tape from seat cover and clean off any remaining tape residue as well.
14. Reinstall folding rear backrest (see WIS: AR91.12-P-1720GI).
15. Check for proper operation of seat belts and rear seat backrest.
16. Vacuum out entire interior of vehicle to ensure vehicle is clean of any remaining metal chips prior to returning vehicle back to the client.
