Pressure Regulator Inspection

CAUTION: Disconnecting/connecting the quick release connector without cleaning it may possibly cause damage to the fuel pipe and quick release connector. Always clean the quick release connector joint area before disconnecting/connecting, and make sure that it is free of foreign materials.

Simulation Test

1. Carry out the "Fuel Line Pressure Inspection". (Refer to Fuel Line Pressure Inspection.)
Testing and Inspection

- If not as specified, perform the further inspection for the pressure regulator.

Operation Inspection

NOTE: Perform the following test only when directed.

1. Complete the "BEFORE REPAIR PROCEDURE".
Fuel System Before Repair Procedure

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3. Squeeze the tabs on the quick release connector of the fuel main hose and disconnect the plastic fuel hose.
4. Push the SST quick release connector into the fuel distributor and fuel main hose into the SST until a click is heard.

5. Turn the lever on the SST as shown.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
7. Start the engine and let it idle.
8. Measure the fuel line pressure after approx. 2 minutes.

Fuel line pressure
210 - 250 kPa (2.1 - 2.6 kg/Sq.cm, 30 - 36 psi)

9. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator and measure the fuel line pressure.

Fuel line pressure
270 - 310 kPa (2.7 - 3.2 kg/Sq.cm, 39 - 45 psi)

10. Turn the ignition switch off.

11. Disconnect the SST.

NOTE: A checker tab is integrated with the quick release connector for new plastic fuel hoses. The checker tab will be released from the quick release connector after it is completely engaged with the fuel pipe.

12. Inspect the plastic fuel hose and fuel pipe sealing surface for damage and deformation, and replace as necessary.
- If the quick release connector O-ring is damaged or has slipped, replace the plastic fuel hose.

13. Reconnect the fuel main hose to the fuel distributor until a click is heard.

14. Pull the quick release connector by hand and verify that it is installed securely.

- If not as specified, inspect the following:
- Fuel pump maximum pressure
- Fuel pump hold pressure
- Fuel filter for clogging
- Fuel injector for leakage
- Fuel pump relay
- Fuel line for improper routing, clogging, kinks or leakage
- If all items above are okay, replace the pressure regulator.

15. Complete the "AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE".
