POWER DOOR LOCK MALFUNCTIONS

All 1999 Protege with VINs lower than JM1 BJ22** *0 119526.
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit the following power door lock malfunctions:
^ No or intermittent door lock operation when using the vehicle key in the front door lock(s) to unlock or lock other doors.
Note
^ When unlocking all other doors at the driver's door lock, be sure to hold the vehicle key in the unlock position (counter clockwise) for approximately one (1) second. The passenger's door lock should unlock all other doors immediately when the key is in the unlock position.
^ Unintended door lock operation (with or without key in door lock).
This could be caused by corrosion and/or water on the door switch contacts. A modified door lock switch with a rubber seal is available to resolve this concern.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Using an ohm meter, check for continuity between the two (2) door lock switch terminals while placing the lock switch in the various positions as shown in the table below.
Switch Position Specification
Neutral Open
Lock 900-1000 ohms
(clockwise)
Unlock 0.1-0.2 ohms
(counterclockwise)
^ If not as specified above, replace switch with modified service part.
^ If as specified above, refer to Workshop Manual (section 09 - KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS) for further diagnostic procedures.
3. Verify repair.
