QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

DESCRIPTION

To improve serviceability, quick release connectors have been adopted on the 1999 Protege. If fuel lines need to be serviced, refer to the following procedures.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove any dint or grease from the quick release connector before disassembling.





2. Squeeze the tabs to release the connector from the fuel pipe and pull straight out.

3. Upon reassembly, inspect the fuel pipe end for any burs, deformations, scratches, dust, etc.

4. Inspect the quick connector O-rings for proper placement and debris.

5. Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to the end of the fuel pipe.

6. Carefully insert the quick release connector straight onto the fuel pipe until it bottoms out.

Note
^ You will hear a "click" when the quick release connector locks.





7. Gently pull the quick release connector to make sure that the fuel pipe is securely connected.

^ There is approximately 3 mm of play in the connector.
