Fuel Injector: Testing and Inspection
Simulation Test1. Carry out the "Fuel Injector Operation Inspection". (Refer to Fuel Injector Operation Inspection.)
Testing and Inspection
- If not as specified, perform the further inspection for the fuel injectors.
Resistance Inspection
NOTE: Perform the following test only when directed.
1. Turn the ignition switch off.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Disconnect the fuel injector connectors.
4. Measure the resistance of the fuel injector using an ohmmeter.
- If not as specified, replace the fuel injector.
Resistance: 12 - 16 Ohm [20 °C (68 °F)]
- If as specified but "Simulation Test" is failed, inspect the following:
Open circuit
- Ground circuit (No.1 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal B and PCM connector terminal 75)
- Ground circuit (No.2 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal B and PCM connector terminal 101)
- Ground circuit (No.3 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal B and PCM connector terminal 74)
- Ground circuit (No.4 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal B and PCM connector terminal 100)
- Power circuit (No.1 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal A and main relay connector terminal D through common connector)
- Power circuit (No.2 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal A and main relay connector terminal D through common connector)
- Power circuit (No.3 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal A and main relay connector terminal D through common connector)
- Power circuit (No.4 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal A and main relay connector terminal D through common connector)
Short circuit
- No.1 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal B and PCM connector terminal 75 to Ground
- No.2 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal B and PCM connector terminal 101 to Ground
- No.3 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal B and PCM connector terminal 74 to Ground
- No.4 cylinder fuel injector connector terminal B and PCM connector terminal 100 to Ground
5. Repair or replace faulty areas.
6. Reconnect the fuel injector connectors.
7. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Fuel Leakage Test
WARNING: Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Always carry out the following procedure with the engine stopped.
NOTE: Perform the following test only when directed.
1. Complete the "BEFORE REPAIR PROCEDURE". (Refer BEFORE REPAIR PROCEDURE.)
Fuel System Before Repair Procedure
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the fuel injectors together with the fuel distributor.
4. Fasten the fuel injectors firmly to the fuel distributor with wire.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
CAUTION: Connecting the wrong DLC terminals may possibly cause a malfunction. Carefully connect the specified terminals only.
6. Short the DLC terminal F/P to body Ground using a jumper wire.
7. Turn the ignition switch on to operate the fuel pump body.
8. Tilt the fuel injectors approx. 60 degrees and verify that fuel leakage from the fuel injector nozzles is within the specification.
- If not as specified, replace the fuel injector.
Fuel leakage: Less than 1 drop/2 minutes
9. Turn the ignition switch off and remove the jumper wire.
10. Complete the "AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE".
Fuel System After Repair Procedure
Volume Test
WARNING: Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Always carry out the following procedure with the engine stopped.
NOTE: Perform the following test only when directed.
1. Complete the "BEFORE REPAIR PROCEDURE".
Fuel System Before Repair Procedure
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the fuel injectors together with the fuel distributor.
4. Fasten the fuel injectors firmly to the fuel distributor with wire.
5. Connect the SST as shown in the figure.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
CAUTION: Connecting the wrong DLC terminals may possibly cause a malfunction. Carefully connect the specified terminals only.
7. Short the DLC terminal F/P to body Ground using a jumper wire.
8. Turn the ignition switch on to operate the fuel pump body.
9. Measure the injection volume of each fuel injector using a graduated container.
Injection volume:
64 - 83 ml (64 - 83 cc, 2.2 - 2.8 fl oz)/15 sec.
10. Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the jumper wire.
11. Complete the "AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE".
