WHEEL HUB, STEERING KNUCKLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Removal in the order indicated in the table.
2. Install in the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION: Leave the nuts on the ball joint studs until removing the axle component. This will keep the axle weight distributed evenly and prevent damage to the link bushings.
Locknut Removal Note
1. Knock the crimped portion of the locknut outward by using a small chisel and a hammer.
2. Lock the hub by applying the brakes.
3. Remove the locknut.
Brake Caliper Component Removal Note
- Suspend the brake caliper component as shown in the figure.
Wheel Hub Component Removal Note
1. Press out the front wheel hub component by using the SST.
2. Grind a section of the bearing inner race until approximately 0.5 mm {0.020 inch} remains. Then remove it with a chisel.
Wheel Bearing Removal Note
- Press out the wheel bearing by using the SST.
Dust Cover Removal Note
NOTE: The dust cover does not need to be removed unless you are replacing it.
1. Mark the dust cover and steering knuckle for proper reassembly.
2. Remove the dust cover by using a chisel.
Hub Bolt Removal Note
NOTE:
^ The hub bolts do not need to be removed unless You are replacing them.
^ Press out the hub bolts.
Hub Bolt Installation Note
- Press in new hub bolts.
Dust Cover Installation Note
1. Mark the new dust cover in the same manner as the one removed
2. Align the marks of the new dust cover and the steering knuckle.
3. Press in the dust cover by using a steel plate and the SST.
Wheel Bearing Installation Note
- Press in the new wheel bearing by using the SST.
Wheel Hub Component Installation Note
- Press in the front wheel hub component by using the SST.
Oil Seal Installation Note
1. Using the SST and a hammer, tap a new oil seal in evenly until the SST contacts the steering knuckle.
2. Coat the lip of the oil seal with grease.
Locknut Installation Note
- Install a new locknut and stake it, as shown.
