Front Lower Arm
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Remove the locknut and the splash shield(s).
2. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
4. Adjust the front wheel alignment.
Engine Mount Member Removal Note
1. Support the engine by using the Special Service Tool (SST).
2. Remove the engine mount member nuts.
Lower Ball Joint Removal Note
1. Suspend the axle component by using a rope.
2. Remove the drive shaft from the axle component and suspend the drive shaft with a rope.
3. While supporting the ball joint with one hand, remove the ball joint by using the SSTs.
Dust Boot (Lower Ball Joint) Removal Note
- Carefully remove the dust boot with a chisel.
Lower Arm Removal Note
1. Support the crossmember by using a jack.
2. Remove the crossmember installation nuts.
3. Lower the crossmember to gain clearance.
4. Remove the lower arm assembly.
Lower Arm Bushing (Front) Removal Note
- Press the lower arm bushing out by using the SSTs.
Lower Ball Joint Installation Note
- Install a new locknut and stake it as shown.
Tightening torque: 116 - 156 Nm (86 - 115 ft. lbs.).
Dust Boot (Lower Ball Joint) Installation Note
1. Wipe any grease off the ball stud.
2. Fill the inside of the new dust boot with grease.
3. Press the boot onto the ball joint by using the SST.
4. Wipe away any excessive grease.
Lower Arm Bushing (Front) Installation Note
1. Apply soapy water to the new bushing.
2. In order to keep the lower arm stable, position the SSTs as shown.
3. Press the new bushing in by using the SSTs.
Lower Arm Bushing (Rear) Installation Note
- Install the lower arm bushing so that the direction indicator is facing down.
LOWER ARM INSPECTION
1. Inspect the link for damage and boot cracks. Replace it as necessary.
2. Inspect the ball joint for looseness. Replace the link as necessary.
3. Shake the ball joint stud at least 5 times.
4. Connect the SST to the stud and measure the rotation torque by using a pull scale.
Rotation torque 0.3 - 3.4 Nm (2.6 - 30 inch lbs.).
Pull scale reading 3.0 - 34 N (0.7 - 7.7 lbs.).
5. If not within the specification, replace the lower ball joint.
