Replacement
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
2. Install in the reverse order of removal.
3. After installation, check the parking brake lever stroke. Refer to Parking Brake / Adjustments.
4. If the parking brake shoes have been replaced, settle the parking brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoes Settling.
Caliper Removal Note (2)
- Support the caliper as shown in the figure.
Disc Plate Removal Note (3)
1. Mark the wheel hub bolt and disc plate before removal for reference during installation.
2. If the disc plate is difficult to remove, loosen the parking brake shoes as described below.
(1) Remove the service plug from the disc plate.
(2) Insert a screwdriver into the hole and turn the adjuster in the opposite direction of the arrow marked on the disc plate
Parking Brake Shoe Installation Note (8)
- Before installing the parking brake shoes, apply grease to the shaded areas of the back plate, as shown in the figure.
Operating Lever Installation Note (10)
1. Install the operating lever with the arrow facing the front.
2. Connect the operating lever to the parking brake cable.
Adjuster Installation Note (9)
1. Screw the threaded part of the adjuster in completely.
2. Install the adjuster between the brake shoes with the threaded part facing the front on the left wheel and the rear on the right wheel.
Disc Plate Installation Note (3)
1. Remove any rust or grime on the contact face of the disc plate and wheel hub.
2. Install the disc plate and align the marks made before removal.
3. After instating the disc plate, adjust the parking brake shoe clearance as described below.
1) Remove the service plug from the disc plate.
2) Insert a screwdriver into the hole and turn the adjuster in the direction of the arrow marked on the disc plate until the disc plate locks.
3) Set the shoe clearance to about 0.34 mm (0.013 inch) by turning the adjuster 3 - 5 notches in the opposite direction of the arrow marked on the disc plate.
4) Rotate the disc plate by hand, and verify that the brakes do not drag.
5) Install the disc plate service plug.
