With G4A-El & GF4A-El
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.2. Drain transaxle fluid into suitable container.
3. Remove battery and battery carrier.
4. Remove fresh air duct, then the air cleaner assembly.
5. On 1993 models equipped with 2.0L engine, remove resonance chamber.
6. Remove selector cable clip, then disconnect cable from manual shaft lever and pull cable from cable bracket to remove from vehicle.
7. On 1993 models equipped with 2.0L engine, proceed as follows:
a. Disconnect inhibitor switch, solenoid valve and oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
b. Disconnect oxygen sensor ground wire, then remove oxygen sensor bolt.
c. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor electrical connector, then remove fuel filter nuts.
d. Disconnect vehicle speed pulse generator electrical connector, then remove harness bracket.
e. Disconnect harness ground.
8. On all models except 1993 equipped with 2.0L engine, proceed as follows:
a. Remove inhibitor switch bolt, then disconnect inhibitor switch and solenoid valve connectors.
b. Remove harness bracket, then the ground and nut.
c. Remove fuel filter mounting nuts, then disconnect vehicle speed sensor and vehicle speed pulse generator electrical connectors.
d. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor ground.
9. Remove engine mount stay.
10. On all models except 1993 equipped with 2.0L engine, remove starter.
11. Disconnect oil hose, then remove front lefthand wheel and tire assembly and splash shield.
12. Remove transverse member.
13. On all models except 1993 equipped with 2.0L engine, remove exhaust pipe.
14. Remove cinch bolt from lower arm ball joint, then pry lower arm out of knuckle. Wrap rag around ball joint dust seal to protect from damage.
15. Remove tie rod end cotter pin, then loosen nut until it is flush with end of ball stud. Do not reuse cotter pin. Use nut to prevent thread damage.
16. Disconnect tie rod end from knuckle, using ball joint puller tool No. 49 0118 850C, or equivalent. Do not damage dust seal.
17. Remove stabilizer control link, then the driveshaft as follows:
a. Remove ABS wheel speed sensor harness clip, then the nuts.
b. Separate righthand driveshaft from joint shaft by using suitable brass bar and hammer.
c. Separate lefthand driveshaft from transaxle by prying with bar inserted between outer ring and transaxle. Do not damage oil seal with driveshaft splines.
d. Suspend driveshaft with rope.
e. Install differential side gear holder tool No. 49 G030 455, or equivalent, into transaxle to hold side gear.
18. Remove joint shaft, then the intake manifold stay and starter.
19. Remove engine mount rubber No. 5, then the engine mount No. 1 bolts.
20. Install suitable engine support, then remove engine mount member.
21. Remove seal rubber from torque converter end plate as necessary, then hold driveplate and remove torque converter nuts.
22. Remove engine mount No. 4, then loosen engine support and lean engine toward transaxle.
23. Support transaxle with suitable jack, then remove transaxle bolts and transaxle.
24. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. On 1993 models equipped with 2.0L engine, transaxle bolts, Fig. 19, A, 40 - 73 ft.lb.; B, 28 - 38 ft.lb.; C, 14 - 18 ft.lb.
