Fuel Injector: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION
Operation Check
- Warm up the engine and run it at idle.

- Listen for operational sound of the fuel injector by using a screwdriver or a soundscope.
- If no sound is heard, measure fuel injector resistance.
- If the fuel injector resistance is OK, check wiring to the fuel injector and engine control module terminals 4U, 4V, 4W and 4X voltage.

Fuel Injector Resistance
- Disconnect the fuel injector harness.

- Measure resistance of the fuel injector with an ohmmeter.

Resistance: 12 - 16 ohms @ 20°C (68°F)

- If not as specified, replace the fuel injector.

Fuel leakage test

- Firmly affix the fuel injectors to the fuel distributor with wire.
- Disconnect the fuel injector connectors.
- Remove the fuel distributor and fuel injectors together with the fuel hoses connected.

- Connect data link connector terminals F/P and GND by using a jumper wire.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.

- Tilt the fuel injectors approx. 60 degrees and verify that no fuel leaks from the fuel injector nozzles.
- If fuel leaks from the fuel injector, replace it.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF and remove the jumper wire.

Leakage Specification
If there is more than one drop per 2 minutes, replace the fuel injector.

Volume Test

WARNING: Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.

- Firmly affix the fuel injectors to the fuel distributor with wire.
- Disconnect the fuel injector connectors.
- Remove the fuel distributor and fuel injectors together with the fuel hoses connected.
- Connect the SST to the battery and an fuel injector.

- Check the injection volume by using a graduated container.

Injection volumes: 59 - 76 ml (2.0 - 2.5 fl. oz.) in 15 sec.

- If not as specified, replace the fuel injectors.
