LOWER CYLINDER BLOCK BOLT LENGTH CHANGE

APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS
All 1996 626 and MX-6 with 2.5L (KL) V6 engines produced after Jan. 16, 1996 and a VIN of 1YVGE**D*T5540034 and higher.
All 1996 Millenia with a 2.5L (KL) V6 engine.

DESCRIPTION

The lower cylinder head bolts for the above models are now shorter in length. Also, the washer under the head is eliminated. See comparison chart below for identification characteristics.
The following interchangeability precautions should be observed:
^ The new and old style bolts are completely interchangeable. If the new style is used, do not install washers.
^ If a washer is installed with a new (shorter) bolt, the bolt and bolt hole threads will not be sufficiently engaged and oil leakage will result.
^ If the old (longer) style bolt is used, washers must also be installed.
^ If a washer is not installed on the old style (longer) bolt, the bolt will bottom out prior to being fully tightened. This also will result in an oil leak.
^ Do Not mix the old and new types of bolts on the same engine.
^ The tightening and sequence have not changed.
