Replacement





Removal/Installation


Note: Drain the transaxle oil before removal.

1. Remove in the order shown in the figure.
2. Install in the reverse order of removal.
3. After installation, fill the transaxle with the specified amount of the specified transaxle oil and inspect for oil leakage.
4. Loosely tighten the stabilizer nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten all nuts to the specified torques with the vehicle unladen.
5. Check the front wheel alignment.










Removal

Locknut






Caution: Do not damage the drive shaft.

1. Raise the staked portion of the locknut using a chisel.
2. Lock the hub by applying the brakes.
3. Remove the locknut.



Tie Rod End







Caution: Do not damage the dust boot.

Loosen the nut and disconnect the tie rod end by using the SST.


Lower Ball Joint







Caution: Be careful not to damage the ball joint dust boot.

1. Remove the clinch bolt and nut.






2. Pry down on the lower arm to disconnect the ball joint.

Engine Mount Member






Suspend the engine by using the CSST and remove the engine mount member.


Drive shaft







Caution: Do not damage the dust cover or oil seal.


As shown in the figure, remove the drive shaft from the transaxle with a pry bar.







Note: Only for the right side drive shaft, as shown in the figure, insert a pry bar between the drive shaft and the joint shaft and tap on the bar to uncouple them.







Note: If the drive shaft is stuck in the front wheel hub, install a miscellaneous nut until it is flush with the end of the shaft. Tap the nut with a copper hammer to remove the drive shaft.



Installation

Drive shaft







Caution: Do not damage the dust cover or oil seal.


1. Turn the clip with the opening facing upward.







2. Push the drive shaft into the transaxle.


Caution: Do not damage the oil seal.


Note: After installation, pull the tripod joint side outer ring outward to verify that the drive shaft is held.







Note: Only for the right side drive shaft, push the drive shaft into the joint shaft.

Lower ball joint







Tighten the bolt and nut.


Tightening torque 35-56 N.m (3.5-5.8 kgf-m, 26-41 ft-lbf)

Tie Rod End







Caution: Do not damage the dust boot.

Install the nut and secure it with a new cotter pin.

Tightening torque: 32-44Nm (3.2-4.5 kgf-m, 24-32 ft-lbf)


Locknut

Install a new locknut and stake it, as shown.







Tightening torque: 236-318 N.m. (24.O-32.5 kgf-m, 173.6-236.0 ft-lbf)
