Air Bag Systems: Description and Operation
OPERATION
- When the two crash sensors in the SAS-unit detect vehicle deceleration, they output an electric signal.
- The monitor circuit and output control circuit calculate the input electric signal and determine whether or not to send the signal to I/O (input/output) interface.
- If the calculated value is less than the value set in the monitor circuit and output control circuit, the monitor circuit sends an output inhibitor signal to the I/O interface to deactivate the air bag module.
- If the calculated value is more than the set value, the output control circuit sends an output signal the I/O interface to activate the air bag module.
- When the inflator receive the signal from the I/O interface, the ignition intensifier ignites, and nitrogen gas is generated.
- The air bag modules deploy the air bags because of the nitrogen gas.
