Fig. 15 Exploded View Of Steering Rack Assembly (Part 1 Of 2). MX-3 W/K8 Engin:

Disassemble power steering rack in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 15, noting the following:
1. Using tie rod end removal tool No. 49 H032 301 or equivalent, remove tie rod end.
2. Using locknut removal tool No. 49 B032 321 or equivalent, remove locknut.
3. Uncrimp housing cover using a 0.06 inch drill at crimped area. Do not us a larger drill or drill deeper than 0.06 inch or threads will be damaged.

4. Remove pinion locknut, set gear housing assembly on a press and remove pinion shaft assembly as shown in Fig. 16.
5. Cut away staked areas of rack bushing with a drill, then remove the rack bushing.
6. Slide seal protector tool Nos. 49 G032 305 or equivalent over rack from gear housing side.

7. Install special tools as shown in Fig. 17, then remove oil seal by pulling out the rack.

8. Insert tool No. 49 G032 301 or equivalent as shown in Fig. 18.
9. Press oil seal and spacer out of housing.
10. Remove lower bearing using bearing remover tool No. 49 G032 303 or equivalent.
11. Remove oil seal and needle bearing using bearing remover and spacer tool Nos. 49 G032 303 and 49 G032 302 or equivalent.
