Fuel Pressure Control Solenoid: Description and Operation

Pressure Regulator Control System:

PURPOSE
The pressure regulator control system raises fuel pressure to prevent fuel percolation during hot restart idle.

LOCATION
Pressure regulator control solenoid is attached to the top right side of the intake manifold.

OPERATION
Under specified conditions, the PCME closes the solenoid valve to block vacuum to the fuel pressure regulator. This allows the pressure regulator to control fuel pressure without vacuum modulation, raising fuel pressure to slightly more than 284 kPa (41.2 psi).

Under the following conditions, the PCME activates the system for approximately 120 seconds after starting:
^ Coolant temperature above 90°C (194°F).
^ Intake air temperature above 50°C (122°F).
^ Throttle valve fully closed and no load condition.
