Volume Test

Fuel Rail (Delivery Pipe) W/Injectors Attached For Testing:

WARNING: Be extremely careful when working with fuel. Keep sparks and open flames away.

1. Remove injectors and delivery pipe as an assembly.
2. Wire injectors to delivery pipe.

CAUTION: Fix injectors firmly to prevent fuel pressure from blowing them off.

3. Connect diagnosis connector terminals F/P and GND with jumper wire and turn ignition ON.

Energizing Fuel Pump At Diagnostic Connector:

4. Connect Mazda SST (49 L018 901), or battery voltage and ground, to each injector in turn. Catch fuel discharge in a graduated container and check injection volume:

B6 except Calif.: 2.0 - 2.4 cu in (32 - 40 cu cm) / 15 seconds
Calif. B6 and BP SOHC: 2.5 - 3.1 cu in (40 - 51 cu cm) / 15 seconds
BP DOHC: 3.5 - 4.2 cu in (56 - 69 cu cm) / 15 seconds

WARNING: Fire hazard. Use appropriate connectors and long jumper wires. Do not create sparks near injectors or container of fuel. Injector fuel mist is easily ignited.

5. Replace injectors discharging incorrect volume.
