Inoperative Speedometer Gear Set Warranty Extension
Dear Mazda Dealer:
Mazda Motor Corporation is extending the warranty coverage of the speedometer gear set oh all 1994 626 and MX6 vehicles with a four-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission. The extended warranty coverage is available for 9 years from the original warranty start date with no and the driven gear on the speedometer gear set may result in damage to the speedometer gear set.
Symptoms of speedometer gear set failure may include an inoperative speedometer, lack of power, and/or a transmission which is in fail safe mode (stays in third gear). In most cases, the "0/D OFF" light will also flash with DTC 452 stored in memory. A modified speedometer gear set is available which will allow for the correct clearance between the gears.
NOTE:
THESE SYMPTOMS MAY BE CAUSED BY OTHER FAILURES AS WELL, AND CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS FOR THESE CONCERNS SHOULD BE FULLY DIAGNOSED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WORKSHOP MANUAL.
Please refer to Attachment I for warranty information and program details. Inspection and repair procedures are provided in Attachment II. A copy of the letter that each of the affected vehicle owners will receive and the reimbursement application form are shown in Attachment III. The letter notifies owners that there is an extended warranty on their vehicle as described above, and that the replacement of the speedometer gear set will be at no cost to them.
Please make certain that the appropriate personnel in your dealership are familiar with the details of this Warranty Extension Program for responding to customer inquiries.

THIS IS NOT A RECALL; IT IS A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THE SPECIFIED PART ONLY. INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT OF NON-FAILED PARTS WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT TO THE DEALER OR THE CUSTOMER. THIS PROGRAM EXTENDS THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR ACTUAL FAILURES DUE TO DEFECTS IN WORKMANSHIP OR MATERIALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH MAZDA WARRANTY POLICY AND PROCEDURES.
