Removal

Before removing steering gear disconnect pinion shaft
from the intermediate shaft with wheels in straight ahead position. Do not turn steering wheel while steering gear is removed. If this occurs, it will be necessary to adjust the clockspring connector as outlined in Air Bag and Seat Belts.
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheels.

2. Remove components in numerical sequence shown in Fig. 12.
3. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Check system for fluid leaks.
b. Bleed air from power steering system.
c. Adjust wheel alignment as necessary.
