Park/Neutral Switch (ATX)

PURPOSE
Prevents starting the vehicle except when gear selector is in "P" or "N" positions. Signals powertrain control module engine (PCME) of gear shift position.

OPERATION
The powertrain control module transaxle (PCMT) monitors the switch signal and relays gear select information to the PCME.
The park/neutral switch affects the operation of the following PCME output systems and/or devices:
- A/C relay (A/C cut-off control system) and Condenser fan (LOW speed) relay
- Fuel injection quantity
- Purge solenoid valve (purge control)
- Igniter (ignition timing control)
- Pressure regulator control solenoid valves (fuel pressure)
- Self-diagnosis checker (monitor lamp)
