Fuel Pressure Regulator: Testing and Inspection

PRESSURE REGULATOR TESTS

WARNING: Release fuel pressure. Fuel line spills and leaks are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Line Safety Procedures".
Technician Safety Information

NOTE: Obtain audio anti-theft access code before disconnecting battery cables.

Fuel Line Pressure
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.


View: Fuel Pressure Gauge Installation:





2. Connect fuel pressure gauge between filter and main fuel hose.
3. Connect battery cable.
4. Start engine and run at idle.
5. Check fuel line pressure.

Pressure: 210 - 260 kPa (30 - 38 psi).

6. Disconnect vacuum hose at pressure regulator and measure line pressure.

Pressure: 260 - 310 kPa (37 - 45 psi).


Hold Pressure
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.

2. Connect fuel pressure gauge between filter and main fuel hose. Install clamps as shown.
3. Connect negative battery terminal.


Use A Suitable Jumper Wire:





4. Install jumper wire between data link connector F/P and GND terminals.
5. Turn ignition ON for 10 seconds to operate fuel pump.
6. Turn ignition OFF and remove jumper wire.
7. Pinch fuel delivery hose with pliers.
8. Observe fuel pressure for 5 minutes. It should be more than 150 kPa (21 psi).
9. If not as specified, replace pressure regulator.
