Manual Transaxle (MTX)
PURPOSEProvides powertrain control module engine (PCME) with a signal related to throttle position and opening speed.
CONSTRUCTION
The throttle position sensor consists of two sub-components in a single housing. One is the throttle position sensor-throttle valve opening (TVO) sensor; which is a variable resistor attached to the throttle body and splined to the throttle shaft. The second sub-component is the throttle position sensor-idle switch (IDL); which consists of a pair of "hard idle" switch contacts.
OPERATION
TVO-Sensor
The resistor contact rotates with the shaft as the throttle opens and closes. Varying resistance alters the reference voltage supplied by the PCME, allowing it (the PCME) to read throttle valve opening angle.
The TVO-Sensor affects the operation of the following PCME output systems and/or devices:
- A/C relay (A/C cut-off control system) and Condenser fan (LOW speed) relay
- Fuel injection quantity
- BAC valve (Idle air control valve-idle speed)
- Variable resonance induction system control solenoids No.s 1&2
- EGR control solenoid valves (EGR operation)
- Igniter (ignition timing control)
- Pressure regulator control solenoid valves (fuel pressure)
- Self-diagnosis checker (diagnostic trouble codes)
IDL-Idle Switch
The idle switch contacts close when the throttle shaft is closed. This provides the PCME with a signal representing either curb idle or deceleration conditions.
The IDL-Idle Switch affects the operation of the following PCME output systems and/or devices:
- Coolant fan relay (coolant fan control)
- Fuel injection quantity
- Fuel injection timing
- BAC valve (Idle air control valve-idle speed)
- Purge solenoid valve (purge control)
- EGR control solenoid valves (EGR operation)
- Igniter (ignition timing control)
- Self-diagnosis checker (monitor lamp)
