Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

PURPOSE
To supply the powertrain control module engine (PCME) with a varying signal that coresponds to intake air temperature changes.

CONSTRUCTION
The sensor is an integral component of volume airflow sensor and is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor; (as temperature increases, resistance decreases).

OPERATION
The intake air temperature sensor affects the operation of the following PCME output systems and/or devices:
- Fuel injection quantity
- Idle air control valve (idle speed)
- Purge solenoid valve (purge control)
- Pressure regulator control solenoid valves (fuel pressure)
- Self-diagnosis checker (diagnostic trouble codes)
