Canister Purge Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

Purge Solenoid Valve Check:

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. Warm engine to operating temperature and run at idle.
2. Disconnect solenoid vacuum hose and verify no vacuum is felt at solenoid.
3. If not as specified, check operation and resistance.

Purge Solenoid Valve Resistance:

OPERATION AND RESISTANCE
1. Disconnect vacuum hoses and electrical connector.
2. Blow into valve and verify NO air passes through.
3. Apply battery voltage across solenoid terminals. Verify that air DOES flow through.
4. If not as specified, check resistance.

RESISTANCE: 23 - 27 Ohms @ 20°C (68°F)

5. If not as specified, replace solenoid valve.
