Dear Mazda Owner:

Mazda Motor Corporation is extending the warranty coverage for the speedometer gear set on all 1994 626 and MX-6 vehicles with a four-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission. This extended warranty covers necessary repairs due to failure of the vehicle's speedometer gear set for 9 years from the original warranty start date with no mileage limitation.

What is the Problem?
If the speedometer gear set fails, the speedometer may act erratically or stop working. Because the electronic signal created by the speedometer gear set is also used for controlling transmission shifting, your vehicle may experience a severe lack of power and difficulty accelerating from a stop due to the transmission staying in third gear at all times. In most cases, the "OD OFF light will also flash.

What will Mazda do?
If the speedometer gear set fails within 9 years of the original warranty start date, your Mazda dealer will replace it at no cost to you. The warranty repair takes about an hour, however it may take longer depending upon the service workload at your dealer.

What should you do?
If your vehicle is experiencing the above symptoms, please make an appointment with your Mazda dealer to have the symptom diagnosed.

NOTE:
If your vehicle is functioning normally, there is no need to contact your dealer at this time. Only defective speedometer gear sets will be replaced in accordance with the terms of this extended warranty.

What if you have already paid for replacement of the speedometer gear set?
If you have already had a repair for speedometer gear set failure, you may be eligible for reimbursement of reasonable repair expenses based upon Mazda's repair standards. Repair orders must indicate a speedometer gear set failure as a cause for the replacement and/or reimbursement. Please complete the enclosed "Reimbursement Application Form", including the necessary documentation and mail it to us in the pre-addressed envelope provided, allowing 6-8 weeks for processing.

Moved or no longer own a Mazda?
If you have moved or no longer own your vehicle, please complete the enclosed "Change of Address/Ownership" prepaid postcard as soon as possible, so that we may update our records.
