Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Testing and Inspection

WARNING: Handling the air bag module improperly can accidently deploy the bag, which may seriously injure you. Read Service Precautions before handling the air bag module.

BEFORE SERVICING

Air Bag Modules Connectors Locations:






1. Deactivate the audio antitheft system, if installed.
2. Disconnect negative battery cable.
3. Remove driver side undercover and lower panel.
4. Disconnect the orange and blue clock spring connectors.
5. Remove glove compartment.
6. Disconnect the orange and blue passenger side air bag module connectors.

CLOCK SPRING INSPECTION

Clock Spring Inspection (Part 1):






1. Perform Before Servicing procedure.
2. Remove driver side air bag module.

Clock Spring Continuity:






3. Check continuity between terminals as shown on image chart.
4. If not as specified, replace clock spring.
5. Connect the blue and orange clock spring connectors.

Air Bag System Connectors:






6. Check if pin B of clock spring connector (harness-side) is broken.
7. If pin B is broken, replace air bag harness.
8. Check if pin B of driver side air bag module connector (on clock spring) is broken.
9. If pin B is broken, replace the clock spring.
10. Disconnect the diagnostic module connector.
11. Connect the blue and orange clock spring connectors.

Clock Spring Inspection (Part 2):






12. Check for continuity between terminals B and C of clock spring.
13. If continuity exists, replace clock spring.
